We now have tenants in our new garden (granny) Flat so we thought it an appropriate time to say a big ‘thank you’ to you and your team for a job well-done. We were particularly pleased with the way you engaged with us from our initial meeting through to project completion, keeping us up to speed with progress and issues. Thank you for ensuring the project ran within budget and yet delivered the quality building that we had requested. Our tenants, and others who have looked through the flat, have admired your workmanship and attention to detail. We would be pleased to recommend you for any other similar works.
Matthew and I would like to thank you for the amazing result achieved in the renovation of our city apartment. We’d never previously met, as Paul Gray Constructions came recommended by an architect friend. Without any question, asking you to execute our project was the right decision, as you managed from start to finish with focus and the ability at any point to update us on progress. On top of that, as they arose you offered options to better finish the finer details creating a sleek and finesse touch. At no point did we feel the progress ran behind or became loose. You ran a tight ship with weekly meetings on site keeping us in the loop. We have no hesitation in recommending your services to any family or friend and will contact you for all future projects.
It is with much appreciation of Mr Gray’s contribution to the construction of my home, that I willingly write this reference. Had it not been for Mr Gray’s ability to correct where others had failed, the project would have collapsed. The renovation project, at the mentioned address and at a value of about 2.2 million, required accurate and detailed finishes. Mr Gray assisted with the original layout and then confirmed and was held responsible for the following four levels, culminating in the difficult roof structure with exposed beams, hips, etc,. His precise methodology insured the desired quality – a remarkable achievement. The build spanned two years (06/07) and for the duration of this time, Mr Gray was a foreman whom others looked to for daily direction and approval. His duties were professionally approached, and the following were absolute in the daily running of this project:
– Liaise with the Owner and Builder
– Site and material management
– Timely and correct material order/delivery
– Correct Interpretation of construction documents
– Exceptional carpentry
Above all else, it is important to stress that Mr Gray never accepted less than perfect. Testament to this is the wonderful home in which my family now lives.
Paul Gray undertook a unique renovation of our Clareville home in 2015. The house is a Hampden style property and Iain Halliday Principal of BKH suggested we do an interior renovation in keeping with its 1920’s style.
The work involved initially fixing structural and finish issues including poor quality work in ceilings and walls and almost a random adherence to any real design integrity. Paul is uncompromising in ensuring the highest standards of workmanship and values his reputation as a tradesman and builder.
Iain Halliday is a demanding and inspired Interior Designer and the design concept he developed involved many features that captured the uniqueness of the 1920’s period. Amongst these were: interior wood panelling, battens on walls and ceilings, changes to lighting, inclusion of picture and chair rails, colour changes to floor boards, fire surround and hearth, wall papering and a colour pallet that moved away from the totally white interior finish. Iain designed a kitchen that was inspired and reflective of the period but also a room that was to become the heart of informal living in the home.
Paul worked on the project from day one, he costed and managed all aspects and all trades over the period of construction. We remained in the house throughout the period and hence he had the additional challenge of managing that aspect of the relationship.
We got to know Paul both professionally and personally and have no hesitation in recommending him to any prospective client. Our observations in relation to Paul are:
– He shows respect for the client, be it the owner or the architect/designer. At no time did we feel that he intruded on our space, he communicated continually, he showed respect and there were no surprises.
– He interpreted the design concept and showed a real interest and understanding of what Iain was trying to achieve. He responded to Iain’s challenges on quality and standards. Paul can work where the highest level of detail and quality is involved.
– He manages a project tightly. His use of software and spreadsheets to cost and manage against a budget is impressive. He comes in on time and to budget. He communicates continually, where decisions need to be made he gives options and costings and guides the process with control and confidence.
– He has a set of tradesman and sub contractors who reflect his own high standards of quality and reliability. Plumbers, electricians, joinery, floor sanding, painters, etc. work well with Paul and have the same values.
Overall, we do not hesitate to acknowledge Paul’s ability to manage complex projects and deliver at the highest level of quality.
Having worked with Paul on the renovation to our own apartment, we have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone who is looking for a reliable builder and outstanding craftsmanship. We have found his work to be of excellent quality with attention to even the smallest detail. This attention was also reflected in the administration of the works. Paul kept his subcontractors well organised and managed to keep the site flowing at all times. All works have been completed according to and/or beyond our expectations while sticking to the anticipated time frame and budget.
Paul is a very passionate, hands on builder who can draw back on years of experience in the industry. As the designers and the clients of the project, we would most happily recommend him and his work to any future client, but even more so look forward to working with him again in the future.
Having worked with Paul at different periods from 1996 up to 2011 I am pleased offer this testimonial. My initial experience with Paul was as an owner builder where I relied heavily on Paul’s knowledge and capability to complete the works to a high quality and in a safe and tradesman like manner. I have found Paul to be an exacting tradesman/builder who is well versed and experienced in supervising and managing his own trade works as well as managing all other building trades. Paul is always diligent in working to budget and schedule. Changes are a real part of building projects and Paul communicates well the potential impacts of such changes and is always willing to accommodate client needs with a view of together achieving the best possible outcome resulting in a high level of client satisfaction. I recommend Paul to future clients; this is a competent and reliable carpenter/builder.
We have no hesitation in recommending Paul Gray to anyone requiring a reliable, hard working builder. We first encountered Paul when we were looking for a builder to rebuild our architecturally designed home. Paul was also the foreman and over saw the hiring and management of all the subcontractors involved in the rebuild as well as site management and the timely ordering of all materials required onsite. Attention to detail was evidenced in a well run, safe and tidy work site. Our rebuild was a substantial project that spanned a period of 18 months. During this time Paul competently liaised with the Architect; the Local Council; the Certifier; and various other professionals involved in the project.
We have recently done some more renovations to our home and had no hesitation in asking Paul to run the job and once again we have witnessed Paul’s fine workmanship.
It gives us great pleasure to give reference to Paul Gray of who was employed by our company over the period from March 2004 to Jan 2006. He was employed as a supervising foreman on domestic projects ranging in value from $100,000 for renovations to Federation houses up to $900,000 for the construction of new dwellings. His knowledge of the construction procedures, time restraints, contractual obligations and what is required by the BCA for domestic construction was fitting for a man in his position within our company.
He reported to our two executive directors and we found him efficient, knowledgeable on work practices and the BCA, very capable in reading architectural plans, the interpreting specifications, and building to the architectural and engineering details of the project.
He was well liked by our administration staff, project managers and our other foremen and got on well with clients.
He is a family man, trustworthy, supportive, honest and a person whom we would like to have in our employ should he wish to join our construction company again.
We have no hesitation in giving this reference, as in our opinion he is suitably qualified to be granted his building license.
